EN 14960 compliance

EN 14960 is the European safety standard for inflatable play equipment. It defines safety requirements and test methods for the design, manufacture and use of inflatable play equipment intended for children and family entertainment. VIV manufactures its inflatable attractions to EN 14960; compliance documentation is confirmed per project before handover.

What EN 14960 covers

The standard addresses the construction and safety of inflatable play equipment, including materials and seam strength, anchorage and ballast against wind, containing walls and fall heights, the number of users and user height limits, blower and pressure requirements, and the information for use supplied with each unit. It is intended to reduce the risk of injury during normal supervised operation.

VIV and EN 14960

VIV inflatable play equipment is built to EN 14960 using durable, certified materials suitable for intensive commercial use. Unit-level specifications, anchoring guidance, operating requirements and the relevant conformity documentation are confirmed for each product and project before delivery. Where customisation, sizes or themes are agreed, the equipment is produced within the technical limits of the standard.

Mechanical attractions and EN 13814

Mechanical amusement rides are covered by a separate standard, EN 13814, for fairground and amusement-park machinery. VIV mechanical attractions are built to EN 13814, with documentation confirmed per project. EN 14960 applies to inflatable play equipment, not to mechanical rides.

Operation, anchoring and inspection

Compliance is a shared responsibility. The manufacturer builds to the standard and supplies documentation; the operator is responsible for safe siting, anchoring and ballast, supervision, daily checks and operation in line with the supplied information for use and applicable local regulations. Periodic inspection should follow the requirements in force in the country of operation.
